Jorge Roig, president of the Venezuelan Federation of Chambers of Commerce (Fedecámaras), stated on Sunday that workers from state-run companies have contacted him to let him know they prefer the “bourgeoisie” in management instead of the government.

“The working class prefers to have the ‘bourgeoisie’ in charge of the companies instead of the state. Many [workers] have approached us in order to regain control of the expropriated companies that have decreased their production and productivity,” Roig told El Nacional.

Roig believes private enterprises and the government should work together in the production and sale of food and medicines, areas where the country is currently facing shortages. Even though Venezuela has faced scarcity issues in the past, current shortages have gone for more than a year.

According to Roig, the Bolivarian Revolution”is a puzzle with lots of missing pieces.” He believes Chavistas need to rethink their perception that a business’s profits are the cause of poverty. “It’s completely backwards. If we do well, everyone does well,” he said.

In response to questions of corruption that have been raised by Venezuelan authorities against private companies and businessmen, Riog said, “There is no way to conceive of corruption without having some government official involved.”

Roig also alluded to the accusations of corruption made by the government authorities against private companies and businessmen, he said that “there’s no way to conceive corruption without having some government official involved.” The Fedecámaras president claims that currency controls are the major source of corruption, and that it must be addressed if the Venezuelan government wants to boost private investment.
