United States: 400 Illegal Immigrants Set Free as Detention Centers Overflow

EspañolAbout 400 suspected illegal immigrants relocated from Texas to Tucson, Arizona, were released on Thursday. Detention centers in the area are operating at full capacity due to an increase in illegal immigration, according to US officials.

For the first time, detention centers in Texas were overwhelmed last month, due to a large influx of Central Americans who crossed the US border toward the Rio Grande valley, said Andy Adame, spokesman for the US Border Patrol in Tucson, Arizona.

“We have enough manpower; it’s due to detention space,” Adame offered to explain why immigrants, mostly families with children, were sent from Texas to Arizona before being released at bus stops.

The Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said immigrants will have to report after 15 days to a nearby agency, where their cases will be handled on the basis of migration priorities.
