US House of Representatives Floor to Debate Sanctions on Venezuela

Espa√ĪolThe US House of Representatives floor will debate the Venezuela Human Rights and Democracy Protection Act (H.R. 4587) on Wednesday, May 28. The House Foreign Affairs Committee approved the proposed legislation on May 12.

The bill, if enacted, would impose targeted sanctions against President Nicol√°s Maduro’s government officials and Chavista leaders responsible for human-rights violations.

“Bringing this important bipartisan bill to the floor sends a clear message that we take the flagrant abuses committed by these thugs seriously and support the Venezuelan people‚Äôs right to exercise freedom of speech and assembly,” said US Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who sponsored the bill and sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
