Costa Rica: Araya Bows Out of Presidential Race
EspañolToday, the candidate of the ruling National Liberation Party (PLN), Johnny Araya, announced his withdrawal from the presidential race for the second round to be held on April 6, in which he would face Luis Guillermo Solís of the Citizen Action Party (PAC).
“Good sense suggests, more than ever, that you have to evaluate reality as it is, and therefore, with all my conviction, I announce my decision to conclude the campaign for the presidency of the republic today,” Araya said during a press conference.
Esto no es un adiós, es un HASTA PRONTO.

The decision was made public after the release of the latest opinion poll conducted by the Center for Research and Policy Studies (CIEP) of the University of Costa Rica, in which the candidate of the Citizen Action Party (PAC) held the lead with 64.4 percent of those who planned to vote.
Araya had to lead a campaign with the low popularity of his party, after the administration of current President Laura Chinchilla. Although, technically, Araya can’t resign the candidacy according to Article 138 of the Constitution, the candidate has decided simply not to continue with the campaign.
