EspañolOn Monday night, a widespread blackout left most parts of Venezuela without electricity. The blackout occurred at approximately 20:10 p.m. EST, and the central and western regions of the country — 15 out of 23 states, including Caracas — were left without service for approximately an hour.

The blackout occurred when Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was in a national broadcast, from the Miraflores Presidential Palace. Afterwards, he accused the opposition of sabotaging the palace’s electrical system.

The Minister of Electrical Energy, Jesse Chacón, informed the country the abnormality of last night’s power failure and announced the start of an investigation by intelligence agencies, looking for the ones who are responsible of manipulating the electrical system and causing the blackout.
