Honduras: Five Die in Confrontation Close to Polling Center

EspañolThis Sunday, two intoxicated men with ties to drug trafficking shot and killed three individuals in the municipality of La Mosquitia — meters from a polling center. Those two men, however, suffered immediate retribution from people in the area and also died in the confrontation.

Colonel Ramiro Archaga, chief of the armed forces, has identified the three victims, all Miskito men, indigenous to Honduras.

Because of the instability, polling booths 10710 and 10711, originally at the School of the Americas, are now in community halls. However, many local people will refuse to vote, as their custom is to refrain during a time of mourning.
