Horacio Cartes: New Paraguayan President
Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara, a relative newcomer to politics back, was sworn in as Paraguay’s president on Thursday. The 57-year-old businessman won the April elections with the backing of the Partido Colorado.
Cartes Jara, who is one of Paraguay’s richest men, promised to combat poverty. “I’m in politics to serve my people, improve the future of new generations and treasure our identity as a free, independent and sovereign people,” he added during his inaugural speech.
